Hitting the road for the long July 4 weekend? You’ll be paying a little more to fill up your vehicle.

Gas in South Florida ticked up by a few cents a gallon Thursday from the prices at the beginning of the week. But if you’re driving beyond state borders, some good news: The average price nationally is down a few cents.

After you pump, expect some company in traffic this weekend.

AAA is predicting that 61 million Americans are hitting the road for the holiday stretch. Even if you’re staying in town, you’ll have company: AAA says the Miami area is the fourth most popular July 4 destination in the country, behind Seattle, Orlando and Anchorage.

“For many Americans, traveling the week of July 4th is tradition,” said Stacey Barber, Vice President of AAA Travel.

Here’s what to know about gas prices:

Gas prices in South Florida

Miami-Dade: The average price: $3.81 on Thursday, July, 2, a 3-cent increase since Monday, according to AAA.

Fort Lauderdale: $3.86, a 3-cent increase since Monday.

West Palm Beach/Boca Raton: $3.97, a 2-cent increase since Monday.

Florida Keys: $4.11, a 3-cent increase since Monday.

Average: The average price for a gallon of gas in Florida on Thursday, July 2, according to AAA, is $3.83, a 6-cent increase since Monday.

U.S. price at the pump

Average: The average price for a gallon of gas across the country on Thursday, July 2, according to AAA, is $3.83, a 3-cent decrease since Monday.

How to find cheap gas near you

There’s an app to help: The GasBuddy app was built to show motorists prices around them and a fuel tracker can update users on stations that have or don’t have fuel based on supply changes.
