New cars, new team, new date, same track for Formula E’s 2027 Miami E-Prix.
Formula E’s 2026-27 schedule, announced Tuesday, says the world championship of open-wheel electric car racing will return to Miami-Dade for the third consecutive year, this time as the season’s second race in the United States. After opening with a December doubleheader in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and hitting Mexico City in January, Formula E comes to Austin on Feb. 6 and Miami on Feb. 20.

And, they will be back at the Miami International Autodrome in Miami Gardens for the second consecutive year. Consider the last two Miami E-Prixs evidence that weather trumps geography when talking about crowds.
Formula E estimated 17,000 schlepped down to Homestead-Miami Speedway for the 2025 race on a sunny April day. Despite Miami Gardens’ more central location to all of South Florida, only about 10,000 decided to deal with a cold, damp Jan. 31 at Miami International Autodrome, conditions that current points leader Mitch Evans credited for the win that turned his season around.

While some Formula E drivers wished their course could incorporate some of the Autodrome’s Formula 1 course, next year will also be on the 1.4-mile/2.32 km circuit used this year. Part of the curiosity during Feb. 19’s practice and Feb. 20’s practice, qualifying and race will be the mating of Formula E’s Gen 4 car with the course.
Bulkier, but also much faster with active all-wheel drive, the Gen 4 car has 600 kilowatts of power, can produce 815 horsepower and get from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour (62.1 mph) in 1.8 seconds. For comparison, from a dead stop, the accepted 0 to 100 kph estimate for current Formula 1 cars is 2.6 seconds.
As far as the teams, German manufacturer Opel joins Jaguar, Lola, Nissan, Mahindra, Citroën, and Porsche which has two teams and one customer team. Current Porsche customer Andretti Formula E will switch to Nissan next season.
