In a recent interview on Armchair Expert, Kaepernick said that he was initially “defensive” when people would tell him how much she looked and acted like him. But as time has gone by, he’s come to love how “determined” and fearless she is.
“When we first had our baby girl,” Kaepernick told host Dax Shepard, “I almost got defensive when people were like, ‘Oh, she looks like you,’ or, ‘She’s doing this like you.’ I’m like, ‘She’s her own person’… But now there are things she does that I’m like, that’s pretty on the nose.”
“That is Nessa’s favorite part. She’s like, ‘You have to deal with you now.’
“We want her to be independent and push the bounds on things.
“She is willing to challenge and is also OK with the consequences on the other side of it. And I’m like, this is fascinating to watch.
“It’s beautiful because she has no fear.”
Kaepernick said that he expects his daughter will have to “face things she ain’t asked for” and wants to prepare her for that kind of life.

“She’s gonna be a little, light-skinned Black girl, and she’s gonna have Kaepernick as her last name,” Kaepernick said. “I know she’s gonna have to face things she ain’t asked for, so I’m like, you have to be prepared.”
Kaepernick is focusing on his memoir.
It’s been nearly 10 full years since Kaepernick last played a down in the NFL and while he has continued to tease an attempted comeback in his late-30s, right now he’s doing a book tour for his memoir, The Perilous Fight.
In the book, Kaepernick has spoken about growing up as a son of a white mother and a Black father and being adopted by two white parents, along with some of the racism he says he encountered in his youth.
