$1 Million In Sports Cards Have Reportedly Been Stolen Off A FedEx Truck

A seven-figure sports card heist reportedly took place this month.

Police have reportedly confirmed that more than 200 packages containing PSA-graded sports cards, valued at close to $1 million, have been stolen off of a FedEx truck. The truck was reportedly parked outside of the California headquarters of grading giant Professional Sports Authenticator (PSA) last week, the Santa Ana Police Department confirmed to The Athletic this week.

The packages are expected to be around $1 million in value, though the true value could be even higher.

“A FedEx truck parked near PSA’s Santa Ana, Calif., grading center was broken into on Oct. 13, the SAPD said. Two pallets bearing an estimated 100 packages each were stolen from the truck while a third pallet had an estimated 50 packages stolen. It’s currently unclear how many total trading cards, which had been graded by PSA and were being shipped back to their owners, were included in the stolen packages,” The Athletic reported.

“PSA reported to police the two stolen pallets had an approximate value of $963,000. A value for the additional 50 packages from the third pallet wasn’t immediately available, as PSA is still in the process of confirming which packages were stolen.”

The SAPD released a statement.

“The pallets contained various trading cards, including, but not limited to, sports cards and Pokémon cards,” the SAPD said in a statement. “The exact value of the stolen items has not yet been determined, pending further investigation. The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact the Santa Ana Police Department.”

PSA’s parent company released a statement

PSA’s parent company, Collectors, released a statement on its website.

“We are aware of a theft involving a third-party shipping vehicle carrying PSA-graded items. We are working closely with law enforcement and the carrier as the investigation continues,” the statement reads.

“We have deactivated the certificates for the stolen items and notified marketplace partners so they can be on the lookout for rare and serialized items. Our customer service team has contacted affected customers directly and is arranging compensation based on fair market value.

“We understand the impact this has on collectors involved, many of whom see these cards as far more than a financial asset. Our team is focused on supporting them. We take this incident seriously, and we will continue working with law enforcement to hold those responsible accountable.”
