The New York Rangers welcome the Tampa Bay Lightning to Madison Square Garden on Tuesday night for an early-season rematch between two Eastern Conference teams off to impressive starts.

New York enters the matchup with a 5-2-0 record and has been particularly difficult to beat at home. The Rangers improved to 4-0-0 at Madison Square Garden with a convincing 6-2 victory over the Vancouver Canucks on Sunday.

Tampa Bay arrives with a 4-1-0 record and a four-game winning streak after dropping its season opener to the Rangers on October 1.

That first meeting ended with a 5-1 New York victory, making Tuesday an opportunity for the Lightning to avenge their only loss of the season. With both teams featuring dangerous offensive players and experienced goaltending options, the rematch provides one of Tuesday’s more intriguing NHL matchups.

Lightning vs Rangers Game Overview

Tampa Bay enters Tuesday’s matchup playing some of its best hockey of the young season. The Lightning have won four consecutive games after opening with a loss to New York, and Brandon Hagel has been one of the team’s biggest offensive contributors.

Hagel has recorded four goals and four assists through five games, including a hat trick in Tampa Bay’s most recent victory. Nikita Kucherov has also been productive, recording eight points through five games, including seven assists.

Kucherov scored Tampa Bay’s only goal in the October 1 loss to New York and has enjoyed considerable success against the Rangers throughout his career.

The Lightning also feature Brayden Point, Jake Guentzel and Anthony Cirelli, giving Tampa Bay several different offensive options.

Rangers Strong At Home

New York has been equally impressive at home. The Rangers are coming off a 6-2 victory over Vancouver in which Tye Kartye and Will Cuylle each scored twice. Alexis Lafrenière and Gabe Perreault also contributed a goal and an assist.

New York has continued winning despite losing star goaltender Igor Shesterkin for the remainder of the season. Dylan Garand has taken on a larger role in goal, including making 19 saves against Vancouver.

Eastern Conference Showdown

Tuesday’s matchup should provide an interesting test for both teams.

Tampa Bay will attempt to continue its winning streak while finding a way to solve a Rangers team that dominated the first meeting.

New York, meanwhile, will look to remain unbeaten at Madison Square Garden and continue building momentum in the Metropolitan Division.

The Lightning return home Thursday to face the Seattle Kraken, while the Rangers will visit the New Jersey Devils.

For both teams, Tuesday offers an opportunity to earn another important early-season victory against a potential Eastern Conference playoff opponent.
