Vikings Fans Thought They Were Getting Tyreek Hill and Got a Stadium Employee Instead

Vikings fans had a bye week to kill Tuesday, and some of them spent it chasing a rumor. A fan account posted a photo from inside U.S. Bank Stadium showing a purple screen with “Hill” and No. 10 in the team’s familiar lettering. That’s the number Tyreek Hill wore in Kansas City and Miami, and Hill is still an unsigned free agent, so the leap wasn’t a long one.

About an hour later, the stadium’s own account shut down the speculation, explaining the display was an honorary tribute to one of its employees. Somebody in Downtown East got a bigger welcome than anyone planned. Everybody else got a reminder that Minnesota’s receiver room could use the help.

Why the Tyreek Hill rumor stuck

The Vikings are 5-0 and lead the NFC North, but the passing game has had to scrap through it. Minnesota ranks 27th in total offense with 1,415 yards through five games. Justin Jefferson missed the Week 4 win over Miami with a sprained ankle, and Jordan Addison was inactive for Sunday’s 23-13 win at New Orleans with a hamstring injury. Head coach Kevin O’Connell said Addison came close to playing, but “he was going to have to feel pretty darn close to 100% for us to possibly risk it.”

The depth behind them has been thin. Jauan Jennings has two catches for 9 yards in four games, and his 41.0 overall grade through Week 4 was the lowest of any Vikings offensive player, according to PFF. Minnesota added Odell Beckham Jr. to the practice squad last week.

Jefferson looked like himself again at the Superdome, catching six passes for 79 yards and a touchdown. Hill would be a bigger swing. He dislocated his left knee and tore his ACL in September 2025, has had two surgeries and is targeting a November return. Agent Drew Rosenhaus said Oct. 5 that he “would anticipate Tyreek Hill potentially signing with a team over the next few days,” and the Chiefs remain the team most often linked to him. The Vikings have roughly $7.8 million in 2026 cap space. For now, the only Hill with a spot at U.S. Bank Stadium is the one on that screen, and the Colts come to town Oct. 25.
