Buccaneers’ Top-Ranked Defensive Lineman Could Be Perfect Trade Target for Packers Ahead of Deadline

It’s no secret that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have fallen short of expectations this season. The team picked up its first win in Week 5, but at 1-4, they’ll need to rack up several more wins in a hurry to stay alive.

Because of that 1-4 record, teams are already looking at the Buccaneers as a potential trade partner. Tampa Bay has several intriguing pieces who could theoretically be made available ahead of the deadline, like Kenny Gainwell, A’Shawn Robinson, and Chris Godwin.

Now, with the deadline just weeks away, the Green Bay Packers are a team that could come calling after seeing a key defender go down in Week 5.

A’Shawn Robinson Could Fill Big Hole for Packers

A’Shawn Robinson has long been a solid defensive lineman in the league, but 2026 could be his best season yet. The former second-round pick has been elite against the run and has been serviceable as a pass rusher as well.

According to CBS Sports’ Zach Pereles, the Packers are a team who could definitely be interested in Robinson. Javon Hargrave suffered a season-ending Achilles injury in Week 5, so the Packers need to fill that hole. The team doesn’t have much depth behind Hargrave, so Robinson would be a perfect patch.

“Robinson’s on a one-year deal. Like the Commanders, the Buccaneers might be holding out hope they don’t have to sell — at least not yet,” said Pereles. “But if the trade deadline approaches closer and the 1-4 Bucs aren’t getting more competitive, Robinson, on a one-year deal, could become an attractive option for playoff contenders.”

As Pereles mentioned, the Bucs probably don’t want to start selling, but they will have no choice if they lose another game or two before the deadline.

Robinson is only on a one-year deal, but the Bucs should still be able to get some decent draft capital. Robinson has actually been the best interior defensive lineman in the league, according to Pro Football Focus. Robinson has a league-leading 89.1 overall grade, and has the second-best grade as a run defender.

There might not be a better Hargrave replacement available for the Packers than Robinson.
