Nick Bosa Gives Some Optimistic News About His Recovery From Calf Injury
Injuries, especially injuries to key players, have been a persistent and crippling problem for the San Francisco 49ers over the years, especially since the summer of 2024. Right now, a number of their starters and rotation players are out of action, and it has particularly hurt their defensive line.

There is some good news, however, as defensive end Mykel Williams, who has been out since tearing his ACL in Week 9 of last season, is set to make his return this Sunday versus the Seattle Seahawks. His versatility and ability to play on the interior of the defensive line will help.
Defensive end Nick Bosa suffered a left calf injury during a pre-practice warm-up about two weeks ago. He has been out of action since then and will not play this Sunday. But he said his return could be right around the corner.
Bosa gave some good news on his recovery
Per Matt Barrows of The Athletic, Bosa said his injured calf is getting better and that he thinks he’ll be able to return two weeks from now versus the Atlanta Falcons. He also said there’s even a chance he can play next Monday against the Washington Commanders.
In fact, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports reported on X (formerly Twitter) that Bosa said he’s “pretty darn likely” to return versus Washington on Oct. 19.

This is very good news for a Niners team that just cannot shake the injury bug. Defensive tackle Alfred Collins, tight end Jake Tonges and wide receiver Ricky Pearsall are out for the season due to injuries, and rookie standout wide receiver De’Zhaun Stribling is expected to be out of action until sometime in November with a deltoid sprain in his ankle.
Defensive linemen Sam Okuayinonu, CJ West and James Thompson Jr., as well as wide receivers Christian Kirk and Demarcus Robinson, among others, are also unable to play right now due to injury.
The Niners have somehow managed to not only go 4-0 but also look like arguably the best team in the NFL despite being so short-handed. They currently have the league’s second-best scoring offense and are third in points allowed, and quarterback Brock Purdy is playing as well as any signal-caller in football.
