Netflix’s ‘Bloodline’ house in Florida Keys put up for sale. What listing says

A lush, tropical home in the Florida Keys that was used as a filming location during all three seasons of Netflix’s drama “Bloodline” went on the market in September for $2.25 million.

But just days after the property was promoted on social media for its Hollywood connection, it went under contract.

“We got a total of about 60,000 views on Instagram and Facebook,” said Ernesto Portuando, a Realtor with American Caribbean Real Estate in the Florida Keys, which handles luxury properties. Portuando and a fellow broker made a video explaining the home’s Hollywood pedigree.

“Buyers were intrigued because of the Florida Keys and Hollywood history of the home,” Portuando said. “Not since “Key Largo” was made in the Keys has so much Hollywood attention been focused on the area.”

The listing describes the distinct whitewashed cottage-style home as a private tropical retreat with an “old Florida” feel on two lots at Mile Marker 87 on the bayside of the Overseas Highway in Islamorada, providing plenty of room and privacy. Nearby water access adds to appeal for boaters.

The three-bedroom, three-bathroom home has 2,796 square feet of living space spread across two lush lots totaling about a half-acre. Encircled by dense tropical landscaping, the house is not directly on the water, but the property has access to a nearby park with a boat ramp, temporary dockage, a beach and a swimming area.

The concrete home has a wraparound porch and mature tropical landscaping. Inside, vaulted ceilings and hand-sculpted walnut floors add to the character.

The main level includes an open living and dining area and a chef’s kitchen with high-end appliances, honed granite countertops, a pantry and a laundry area. There’s also a primary suite, along with another bedroom and bathroom.

Upstairs is another bedroom and bathroom, as well as a sitting room with a mini-refrigerator and breakfast bar. According to the listing, the space could be converted into a fourth bedroom.

Outside, the property has the feel of a private tropical compound. A detached concrete garage has room for a flats boat and a recreational vehicle, along with 30-amp service. The property also includes two driveways, a gardening shed and a fire-pit area.

For owners Matt and Debbie Pribyl, the home’s Hollywood connection began in 2014, when they were renovating the property and a “Bloodline” location scout came through the neighborhood, the Mansion Global reported.

The house wasn’t exactly ready for its close-up. Construction materials and debris were scattered around the property, but that unfinished look apparently caught the attention of the production, which was searching for an authentic Florida Keys home.

From Florida Keys home to ‘Bloodline’ set

“Bloodline” premiered on Netflix in 2015 and ran for three seasons. The series followed the Rayburns, an old Conch family played by Sissy Spacek and Sam Shepard, whose carefully constructed lives began to unravel after the return of Danny Rayburn, the troubled eldest son played by Ben Mendelsohn.

The show’s combination of a dark family saga and murder thriller plus the promo phrase: “We are good people, but we did something bad,” gave the series an edge.

Kyle Chandler played John Rayburn, the family’s sheriff son and main character who tried to stop his family from imploding.

The show’s combination of a dark family saga and an idyllic tropical setting made the Florida Keys an unmistakable part of the story.

The Palm Lane property served as the home of the Rayburns’ youngest, hotheaded son Kevin, and his wife, Belle. It was not the fictional Rayburn Inn, the centerpiece of the family’s business and the setting for many of the show’s scenes.

For the next three years, the production returned periodically as “Bloodline” filmed its three seasons throughout the Keys. Set designers brought in furniture and decorations and transformed thePribyl home into a Rayburn residence. .

According to Bloodline.Fandom.com, several pivotal scenes were filmed at the home.

In Season 1, after the family patriarch dies, Kevin goes to Belle’s house to apologize, and the two reconcile.

In a scene from Season 3, as the characters’ lives began to unravel. Belle finds Kevin in their garage, panicked and holding a gun. Kevin believes killing himself may be the only way to protect his family.

Much of the series was filmed around Islamorada, Key Largo, Long Key and elsewhere in the Upper Keys. Other Florida Keys locations, including the Caribbean Club, Green Turtle Inn, Anne’s Beach and Coral Bay Marina, were among the recognizable spots featured in the series.

Series’ impact on the Keys

The production also had an economic impact on the Florida Keys.

A study commissioned by the Monroe County Tourist Development Council found that the first season generated about $5.8 million in direct production spending in the Keys and more than $65 million in tourism spending attributed to viewers visiting the islands.

Today, some visitors come specifically to see places they have seen on television.

At The Moorings, which provided several locations for the fictional Rayburn property, tourists reportedly began asking where they could find the family’s home.

Eventually, the production packed up its furniture and equipment. The cameras left, and the house went back to being a home.

Leaving the Keys

For the Pribyl family, filming eventually ended and life returned to normal. After 20 years in the Florida Keys, the couple have decided to sell the home and move on.

But the property’s brief life as a television set appears to have left a lasting impression.

Within days of being promoted for its Hollywood connection, the home attracted widespread attention online and went under contract.
