The New York Giants didn’t just lose their Week 2 showdown with the Los Angeles Rams, they may have lost quarterback Jaxson Dart for the season.

Dart suffered a left knee injury during the opening series of the game for the Giants. The initial belief was that he sustained an MCL sprain that’ll force him to miss a few weeks, but his 2026 season wouldn’t be over.
After undergoing more imaging on Dart’s knee, the Giants determined that he could miss the rest of the season if he undergoes surgery.
“Further testing today revealed Giants QB Jaxson Dart’s knee injury is worse than initially thought, and the team and Dart now are facing the possibility of season-ending knee surgery,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter said. “Further testing today revealed Giants QB Jaxson Dart’s knee injury is worse than initially thought, and the team and Dart now are facing the possibility of season-ending knee surgery.”
Shortly after Schefter announced this devastating news, NFL fans blamed President Donald Trump for Dart’s injury. For those who don’t remember, Dart introduced Trump at a campaign event at Rockland Community College in May.
Despite receiving criticism from the public, Dart defended his decision to introduce Trump at that event.

“This was a unique opportunity. You know, being asked and given the opportunity to introduce the President of the United States, you know, my thinking was pretty simple. And the fact of, you know, I’ve always loved this country,” Dart told reporters. “I have extended family members who have fought in wars. I have two uncles who have retired from the Air Force Academy, and served themselves. And I have a great grandfather who served as Secretary of Treasury at some point. So the president position has always been a position that I have always respected, regardless of political affiliation, regardless of political party, and my intentions were just that.”
NFL fans, meanwhile, claim Dart has been hit with the “Trump curse.”
“Trump curse took no time,” one fan said.
“That Trump curse spares no one,” a second fan commented.
“Athletes stop associating with trump the trump curse strikes again,” another fan wrote.
Brutal loss for the Giants.
It’s no secret the Giants were hoping Dart would take a massive leap in Year 2. His 2026 campaign started off on a strong note, as he completed 23 of 29 pass attempts for 230 yards with three touchdowns in a Week 1 win over the Dallas Cowboys.
Now that Dart is injured, Jameis Winston will have to lead the Giants’ offense. That’s a huge downgrade for John Harbaugh’s squad, make no mistake about it.
Hopefully, the next update on Dart ends up being encouraging. It’s hard to be optimistic right now though.
