New York Jets Tackle Olu Fashanu Named a Player of the Week by PFF

Normally, left tackles are at their best when you don’t hear their names. But heading into Week 3, we have an exception in the New York Jets’ No. 74, Olu Fashanu.

The PFF Players of the Week (Week 2) have cited left tackle Fashanu among its players of the week awards. Although his team didn’t win in Week 2, falling 20-17 in overtime, Fashanu kept up his end of the line, even as the right side was collapsing under the relentless drive of the Packers’ Lukas Van Ness.

Fashanu, an imposing 6-6 and 312 pounds, has been a solid addition to the Jets, who drafted him in the No. 11 slot of the 2024 NFL Draft out of Penn State. He signed a four-year, $20.51 million deal, and so far has proved worthy of every penny.

Fashanu has earned an 80.1 overall PFF grade in the 2026 rankings, second among 66 qualified offensive tackles. He has played 141 offensive snaps this season, and his pass-blocking grade of 84.3 ranks second among 66 qualified offensive tackles.

He’s slightly lower against the run, with a grade of 76.5 ranking tenth at the position. So far this season, Fashanu has given up zero sackas and allowed four total pressures in pass protection, with 0 hits allowed to opposing pass rushers. He has been flagged for a single penalty this season.

Fashanu has grown steadily in his career. He sat behind veteran tackles Tyron Smith and Morgan Moses in his rookie season, but still got in 500 snaps. He moved from right tackle to right guard and then became the starting left tackle for the final five games of the 2024 season.

He took over as the starter at left tackle in 2025, starting all 17 games while emerging as a top left tackle. His pass protection was one of the tops in the league and he drew just one penalty that year, proof that he’s keeping the blindside clean

Fashanu is the unquestioned leader of his line, and continued performance at his current level could set him up for post-season awards.

The Jets head to Detroit this weekend for a game against the always-tough Lions. Fashanu will be matched against D.J. Wonnum, who handles the bulk of the snaps, and Tyler Lacy, the backup and change of pace right defensive end

It’s also possible Fashanu could see a few snaps trying to slow down the Lions’ superstar rushers, Aidan Hutchinson, the left defensive end. Jets head coach and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn likes to rotate and shift his linemen, and may align Fashanu against Hutchinson at certain points.
